A choir festival to raise funds and awareness about the wonderful charity, Diverse Abilities.
The Sing to Raise Campaign will take place across Dorset in March. This launch event, sponsored by Wimborne BID, sees local community choirs take to the stage at the Square to provide a day of entertainment.
Most of our events take place in The Oddfellows Arms in Church Street, Wimborne (which is probably Dorset’s smallest and friendliest pub) and our announcements are quirky “Stream of Consciousness” stuff. But for once, we’re playing it straight, because we want a massive turnout for this one. We will also be just around the corner from The Oddies in The Square, Wimborne.
The Polly Morris Band (fabulous band this) have asked us to be involved in this one. Men In Black (rather less fabulous, but well intentioned) will also be there, as will some of our regular performers from I Can’t Believe It’s Not A Folk Club. We will update the event on Facebook with a list of the performers and approximate timings nearer the date.
You can expect an eclectic mix of music from comedy songs to the most miserable but soulful tunes you will ever hear, and everything in between. You can expect Folk, Rock and Roll, Blues, Protest Songs, Pop Songs from various eras and maybe even the odd instrumental or two.
There will not be an entrance fee, but there will be loads of people willing to take your money to benefit a fantastic charity. That charity is Diverse Abilities, Diverse Abilities is Dorset’s disability charity supporting children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities across the county since 1955. Our event will be part of Sing to Raise, a month long campaign asking all different types of singers to help raise funds. Sing to Raise is sponsored by Wimborne BID. We are sorry that you can’t see the logo properly on the picture but here is a web page http://wimborne.ourlocal.town/bid-homepage/
A combination of the total lack of computer skills we have and the rigidity of facebook has made the logos drop off the bottom of the picture. We know that’s bad, but it’s not as bad as Men In Black. Ooops. did we write that out loud?
I hope that not only will you be able to come on the day, but we would be so grateful if you would please share this event on your own Facebook page. If you can invite as many of your Facebook friends as possible that will be even better.
Fundraising concert in aid of the Priest’s House Museum Revival Project featuring the Broadstone Community Concert Band. This highly acclaimed amateur wind band, led by Damon Corio, plays every year at Carols in the Cornmarket. Around 60 brass and woodwind players, of a wide range of ages and talents, will delight you with a programme of music that would be the envy of many professional ensembles, including Bach’s Toccata in D minor, Blues and Boogie and American Trilogy.
Concert tickets are available from Wimborne’s Tourist Information Centre. A VIP ticket will also be available, see posters for more information or ask in the TIC.
